Lorenzo Quinn Sculpture - 'Volare'
Brown Hart Gardens and Halcyon Gallery are delighted to announce the temporary installation of Lorenzo Quinn's sculpture 'Volare'. This is the first in a series of sculptures to be exhibited and open to the public at Brown Hart Gardens.
About Volare
'Volare' is freedom! In Lorenzo's own words it means, 'To open ones arms and feel the unabated expression of happiness flowing through every pour of your fingers. I have always envied birds and their ability to fly away and follow the winds and their dreams'.
Lorenzo Quinn
Lorenzo Quinn is one of the world's leading contemporary sculptors and the son of the late actor, Anthony Quinn. He was born in Rome but due to his fathers acting commitments, was raised between America and Italy.
He studied at the American Academy of Fine Arts in New York and subsequently in workshops and foundries across the United States and Europe. Starting out as a painter in 1982, Lorenzo quickly discovered that it was through sculpture that he was able to truly express himself and communicate most effectively with the viewer.
Lorenzo is inspired by life's everyday experiences and by his desire to communicate directly with his audience and gain an immediate emotional response. His work has been exhibited to great acclaim across all five continents and several of his most striking public sculptures can be seen in major cities throughout the world, including London, Barcelona and Doha, Qatar.
Each one of Lorenzo's sculptures is a natural progression from his writing and poems, which he displays alongside his work. His work represents an artist's need to understand and interpret what is happening around us. As an artist Lorenzo reflects on the emotional experience and invites us to participate and respond with our own thoughts and feelings.
Lorenzo continues to grow and develop the sculptural themes and concepts of his work on a new monumental scale. These dramatic new sculptures naturally lend themselves to the international public installations that the artist is currently working towards. A new exhibition by of his work will open at Halcyon Gallery, 24 Bruton Street, in Mayfair in November 2009.
